Manir and his evilness-Nadine

In the beginning of the story, I did think the Manir abandoned his family because somehow the word had spread that he was going to marry and he refused to do so. Then, I thought that maybe Manir would come, refuse to marry, and be beat up by his mom like in the other story, but what happened in the story was worse than just walking away from your family leaving them clueless.

Manir is supposed to marry Nafusa, and sign a contract for the marriage when he comes back home to a small poor village where his family leaves. Manir is aneducated engineer that works in a city and leads a modern life, unlike his family's traditional and religious lifestyle. Manir never comes home the evening her is suposed to arrive and sign the marriage contract, keeping Nafusa, his sister, and his parents waiting. When they finally sit down to eat dinner, they get a telegram from Manir that say best wishes for the holiday, I am going to marry the company's owner's daughter. No love you, no please come to my wedding and give me you blessings, no I'm sorry I couldn't make it over to the village!!! The whole telegram is what someone would send to a distant friend, of even stranger! Manir's parents justify the son's actions by saying; he didn't know that he was supposed to marry Nafusa, and he didn't invite them to the wedding because he knew they didn't have enought money to buy nice clothes. Manir's parents asked Nafusa to write a letter of congratulations to Manir and send it. Nafusa goes out with Manir's sister to deliver the letter, but they rip it and throw it in the river instead. Nafusa and Manir's sister realize the Manir has deserted the family. Its like writing a letter that you are abandoning your family, and running away. I think that is worse than just leaving without a clue.

Manir was too ashamed of his poor traditional family to have them around in his 'new modern life.' He thought that others would think better of him if he did not have a poor rural family, so he just abandoned them.

One thing i can't understand, is how Manir's parents justified Manirs actions to abandon the family, when it was sooooo easy to see.
