Festival Story

I think the main point the author is trying to make in this story was the family bonds. Hajji Guma describes his son as being a thoughtful young man, who is very successful, looks out for his family and sends home money. His family is looking to him to pay for his sisters wedding and also to marry his cousin. When he goes off and gets married to a wealthy city girl, his family tries not to feel ashamed, embarrassed, and disappointed. He not only has gone against what his family wants, but he has not invited them to his wedding out of shame, and hasn't sent the money he promised to pay for his sister's wedding. The end is important, because both sisters are crying. It shows that not only has he messed up his cousin and her family's life because he won't marry her, but he also has messed up his younger sister and his family's life, because the bride's family is expected to pay for the wedding, and they don't have enough money, so she cannot get married.
